Why the kings were against the pope

Kings had power over about everyone, but the pope had spiritual power over people. Together the king and pope and a large amount t the pope wanted all the power. The pope had the power to send people to the other place then heaven if they felt someone was against the church. The popes worked hard to gain power and place bishops anywhere, but the kings came in the way which was probably a good thing in the Holy Roman Empire. In1073  named Gregory the V11  became the pope. King and popes kept fighting for power throughout the Middle Ages.
